Rosalyn McCafferty - Obit from Opyt Funeral Home

Post by Bob Sramek »

Rosalyn Y. McCafferty, born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1937, passed away Saturday, January 30th, after a sustained illness. She was the only girl of five children born to Eric and Catherine (Burley) Gall. Her surviving brothers are Lyle and Donny and she is preceded in death by her eldest brother, Arlow and youngest brother, Bobby, all of whom grew up in rural Michigan.

Rosalynâ??s life was blessed with four children with her husband, Donald, a long career in the medical field, and a productive retirement surrounded by loving family. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and spoiling her three grandchildren.

Her professional career began when she came to Chicago for Nurseâ??s Training. Receiving her RN out of nursing school in 1958, she soon started working in the Emergency Room at South Chicago Community Hospital, now called Trinity Hospital. She enjoyed the excitement of the Emergency Room as well as the close bonds she shared with her co-workers and local police. In the early 1980â??s, she furthered her education by receiving a Masterâ??s Degree in Business Administration from Roosevelt University - all this while raising her four children. Eldest daughter, Cathy was born in 1959, Donny in 1961, MaryBeth in 1965 and Sean in 1969. The family called Hegewisch home and were members of St. Florian Catholic Church, where Rosalyn assisted with the church gardens and the St. Vincent de Paul pantry.

She will be truly missed by those who knew her, and her memory will live on through the people and lives she touched.
