Special Meeting of the Peaine Township Board

Post by Wkohls »

A Special Meeting of the Peaine Township Board will be held at the Peaine Township Hall at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 21, 2016.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider and approve a transaction whereby the Township will transfer ownership of the East Side Tower to Central Michigan University.

Just a thought, will this be in the best overall interest of Beaver Island or CMU?? Will there still be an opportunity for cell service going forward from this tower, please do not make this exclusive! If the East Side is ever going to have good service it will require tower! CMU is a publicly funded university and there is no reason they cannot share their "good fortune" with the general public!

I agree with Rich, this needs to be a win-win.

I also hope this will be considered carefully to maintain maximum flexibility for future service for all of the Island and Peaine Taxpayers and in the long term.
  • As technology evolves, will TDS need or want to use the tower to provide service?

Will ATT & Verizon have maximum incentive to equip the tower with this transfer?

Will potential other future service providers be allowed with equal or greater ease to utilize the tower to provide service to township taxpayers?

Quality internet and cell coverage will be an increasing factor in property values and hence tax values going forward.

And wireless coverage is an important safety issue for the public.
So I hope this decision is made carefully not only based on what current technology works there but maybe more importantly, what might come in 5 or 10 years as well, and also how this tower fits in with the township's vision for zoning in terms of additional and/or taller future towers, etc.

Thanks for considering this carefully.
