Little Sand Bay Work Bee

Post by Pam Grassmick »

Let's plan on meeting at Peter Gallagher's house at Little Sand Bay on Saturday, October 11th at 10 a.m. for a couple of hours of work on the stream bed at Little Sand Bay. You will need gloves, water, and sturdy shoes. We will be removing small trees and shrubs from the creek near the shoreline. In the event of rain, we will reschedule but the forecast looks favorable. Thanks for your interest and assistance. If you have any questions, call me at 2314.

Thanks!
Pam

The Michigan Monkey Flower has been comprimised by over growth along the creek at Little Sand Bay. After consulting with the MDNR-Threatened and Endangered Species Specialist and LTC, we were given the green light to proceed. We cleared 50 ft. of the creek bed to enhance the plant's habitat. Hopefully, this will allow the Michigan Monkey Flower to return to this area. Many thanks to Eric Naranjo for his assistance and we were able to accomplish much more with his help than by ourselves. We will reevaluate in the spring and may ask for additional volunteers to clear more area along the creek bed.
