Whiskey Point Light â?? Fresnel Lens Future

The St. James Lighthouse is a beloved and historic landmark on Beaver Island. The Coast Guard will eventually replace the Fresnel lens with a LED lantern â?? so the light will continue to send its welcoming beacon across the big lake. Many want to keep the Fresnel lens on the Island for the public to view. The U.S. Coast Guard is inviting the public to comment on this matter for 30 days (ending Oct. 19, 2014). The info on how to provide public comment can be found here.
