Wild Turkeys

Post by thenomads »

We are not seeing any turkeys down our way! Did a lot of them meet their demise during our harsh, long winter? Wondering if the Wildlife Club has done any census of all wildlife since winter.

We don't see as many during the summer months as there is plenty for them to eat in the woods and fields, but I have a small flock that shows up here a couple times a day.

We aren't seeing them like the last few years. I suspect winter kill.

There are fewer birds (turkeys) due to the winter.. coyote kills, etc. Our flock decreased over the winter. However, they also disperse and if there is a wealth of food in the fields and woods, you may not see them. We have a mom with 7 chicks we've watched grow and a flock of 10 toms/jakes that hang around. That is about usual for us.

Indeed total numbers are down some.

However - A big THANK YOU to the Beaver Island Wildlife Club for turkey feeding. We have a turkey flock because of their efforts! :D
