July 24, 1927 - Dec. 23, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Barbara Duvel Fox, 85, of South Bend, died Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Sanctuary at St. Paul's following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Fox was born July 24, 1927, in Mishawaka, to the late Ruth (McElheny) and Edgar L. Rufe, and was a lifetime area resident. On June 19, 1954, in Mishawaka, as Barbara J. Rufe, she married A. Walter Duvel, who preceded her in death November 7, 1990. On December 4, 1992, in South Bend, she married William Fox Sr., who preceded her in death May 24, 2008. She is survived by her stepchildren, Mary Jane Lawson (Greg), William Fox Jr. (Linda) and Roland W. Fox (Carol), all of South Bend; 5 step-grandchildren, Becky, Christopher, Ian, Jennifer and Jonathan; and 1 step-great-grandson, Donnie. Barbara was the little red head that made us all laugh and enjoy life. When she married into the Fox family, she immediately gained six adult children and five grandchildren, all of whom she loved and enjoyed being with. She was a teacher in the South Bend School District for over 25 years and taught all of those years at Nuner Elementary. It has been wonderful for past students and parents to tell our family how much she was loved as a teacher and how many young minds she touched. She was active in many organizations thoughout her life but remained active in Chapter BX PEO, South Progress Club. Barb enjoyed traveling to Beaver Island, MI, every summer and Sarasota, FL, every winter, and it was wonderful that she was able to do that. Her family will miss her sunny smile, bright blue eyes, and her sense of humor. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29th, in First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave., with Rev. Dr. Adelia Kelso officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
