I see people are carving into the old birch tree more and climbing on it more, it will be a goner sooner than later if people don't stay off those roots! Someone is peeling bark from it too! It is the second largest birch tree in the state and if not for being "twinned" it would be first! Seems a shame to kill it this way! Sure everyone should see it but they should respect it!

Wonder if a sign would help to let people know that it is the second biggest white birch in the state and to please stay off of it, no carving and peeling.

Somebody should put trail cams on areas like these and when anybody is caught defasing this property they should be delt with. Either a big big fine or time in jail. This is the only way people learn to respect other peoples property or public property. Same goes for the kids or adults that are using their 4 wheelers to deface the sand dunes or anything else with the 4 wheelers. They DO NOT have any respect for other peoples property. They just come to the island and raise holy terror on this island and then go back to the mainland and forget all about what they did to private property. Properties are not getting defaced from year round residents, as we all respect other peoples properties. It is the tourists that come here and just tear the wholy _ _ _ _ out of personal property and think nothing of it. We need to have some LAW on this island.

You should talk to the NRESC about helping to protect our Natural Wonders. If you ever find out any names, post them here!
