Whistling & Busy at WVBI

Post by WVBI »

Tune in today at 10:00 a.m. to enjoy a brand new Top Ten + Five. Host Cynthia Jaye is back from a summer sabbatical with a countdown of the island's top 15 whistling songs as determined by a highly scientific poll taken at the Paradise Bay Coffee Shop (apparently before they closed for the season).

Speaking of whistling, we've been whistling while we work at WVBI. We've been busy in the last month relocating our transmitter and main antenna to the Emergency Service Tower (just south of the stone house on Kings Highway), installing a backup antenna at our old site, installing a webcam and weather station atop the BIC Center and installing 6 microwave dishes that allow us to reach our new transmitter site (with backups) and the Media Lab at BICS. We've also been busy with programming. Our weekend line-up is revamped with unique programming on Saturday and Sunday evenings--including a full two hours of Rockin' the Boat followed by two hours of Classic Rock Cottage Mix style. Sunday mornings, check out our new Cottage Mix Sunday , a version of the Cottage Mix with light jazz, jazzy pop and deep tracks you'll know, but don't hear often. During the week, we've added Islander News with the latest from BICS produced by students in the BICS Media Lab, the Storyteller's Night Sky on Wednesdays, and on Friday evenings just before 5:00, Island Memories from Rob Cole.

We hope you enjoy the programming changes and our broader reach from our new 95 foot high antenna. We still have a power increase to implement, so coverage should improve from there in the next weeks. Let us know how you're hearing us at programming@wvbi.net and check out the view from our new webcam with a gorgeous view of Paradise Bay by heading to www.wvbi.net and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. Find us on the island at 100.1 FM and worldwide at www.wvbi.net.
