Well water safety

Post by BI Rural Health Center »

Did you know that Michigan has more private household wells than any other state, according to the Department of Environmental Quality? There has been a lot in the news lately about the safety of municipal water systems. The Health Center has information sheets from the state about how to protect your well's water supply from contaminants. We also have test bottles available so that you can send samples to a state laboratory to check your water for chemical and biological contaminants. For more information about well safety and testing procedures and lab fees, stop by the BIRHC during business hours. Thank you!

The fees for testing by the Health Department of Northwest Michigan are $18 for bacteriological testing and $20 for partial chemistry testing. The number there for more information is 1-800-432-4121.
