Dick McEvoy RIP
It is with heavy heart I have to say Dickie McEvoy left this earth early this morning. He had hope to come back to the Island this summer, but called some of us on Monday to say he was going on Hospice yesterday. Just can't believe it happened so fast.

He loved the Island, and was always willing to help out in any way ! He will surely be missed! Heavenly hugs to you Dickie!

Richard "Dickie" McEvoy passed away on April 24, 2024, at the age of 77. Despite the severity of his illness, Dickie showed great courage and continued to live by his own rules until the very end.
Dickie served in the Vietnam War as an Army medic. In the following years, he continued to care for people by earning his Bachelor's degree and working as a Respiratory Therapist.
From Detroit to Beaver Island to Cedar Key, Florida, he has called many places home over the years. Dickie made countless friends and memories along the way. He was always up for an adventure, a good time, and a bit of mischief. During his travels, he visited 53 National Parks and over 10 countries.
Dickie was a fierce advocate for his fellow veterans. He worked tirelessly to build connections and help others obtain available resources. He helped them gain the access and the recognition they deserved.
He gave freely and passionately to his communities. Often volunteering, delegating, and using his knowledge and skills to work towards common goals. Dickie took great pride in his projects with the Beaver Island Historical Society and the Beaver Island Head Light (Southside Lighthouse) towards preservation and restoration.
Dickie's family and friends will forever treasure their memories and the good times they shared. They will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest, just as he did.
Richard McEvoy will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with Military Honors and additionally wake memorials in Attica, MI and on Beaver Island. Specific dates to be determined.
In remembrance of Dickie, any charitable donations can be made to the Beaver Island Historical Society.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer.

Great Lakes is a beautiful cemetery. My dad is interred there. We visit as often as we can.
