Why the Sewer Fund Management Matters

Here is one example, the community of East Jordan which has run its sewer fund management situation correctly for a long period of time recently received a grant that not only improves its sewer and water systems but also allows room for community growth. As the City Administrator Tom Cannon points out, "Cannon said the city had determined up front that the city could afford to pay about $700,000 out of the city's water and sewer fund toward the project without putting that fund in jeopardy."

The difficulties to properly manage our sewer systems finances here have hurt this communities ability to look toward the future. This must change in the future, so we can become proactive and not reactive in our outlook towards the future. We must develop resources to be able to take advantage of opportunities for growth and not be burdened by poor fiscal management.
