The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has announced that many adults may not be immune to the measles because a vaccine given between 1963 and 1967 was not effective. There have been recent outbreaks of measles in the US and around the world. Measles is highly contagious. Symptoms may start out like a bad cold with a fever and progress to a rash on the body. Because of recent outbreaks, the CDC recommends that adults who received that vaccine should be revaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) injections. Adults born before 1957 are considered to be immune because the disease was so widespread that they were likely to have had it. There are blood tests available to check immunity.
Call the Health Center at 448-2275 to schedule an immunization or to review your vaccine history. Thank you!
Are you immune?
