Beaver Island Community Grid is growing

Post by AndyS »

Our team is growing over the holidays our team has grown to 9 members with 15 computers working together to help find cancer markers.

Are you interested in making the world a better place, but struggle to find the time? Here's something you can do while you sleep!

Volunteer computing uses the computers that you might find in any home to create a computing grid that can rival the most powerful high-performance supercomputers in the world.

By joining a volunteer computing grid, you agree to donate your computerâ??s processing time when you are not using it to a network of volunteer computers. Combining this volunteer computer processing power can be used to solve a number of problems.

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds a little suspicious?

The world community grid is not a scam. It is sponsored by IBM, large research Universities and Labs to solve some of sciences largest problems.

The scale of the problems being address from a computing stand point are massive. By factoring the problem into small sizes and using a distributed grid of volunteer computers to analyze the data projects timelines are greatly accelerated and progress is made.

The Beaver Island Community Grid just a Team Name. I created to allow people who are linked to the island to join in a community project. Its a great way to contribute to solving some of sciences big problems. The WCG website tracks results from teams and makes that information available so an individual or team can track there progress.

The only information needed to join is an email. Facebook knows way more about you than the World Community Grid Project ever will.
