Good News on cell phone service. Verizon Wireless will be here this Monday to discuss their plans with both Township Boards and the public. Bob Bradley from 911 Central Dispatch will also join us.
So plan on an interesting meeting with the public and both township boards on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Peaine Township Hall as we all work to bring cell service to Beaver Island.
Here is the key background information:
* Verizon plans to build a new tower that will bring 4G cell service here.
* They propose building it on the Peaine Township Property on Kings
Highway where 3 towers already exist.
* One tower there belongs to Verizon, a second belongs to the two
townships for backup emergency services, and one is owned by AT&T.
* Verizon recommends removing the existing equipment from the EMS
tower and reinstalling it onto the current Verizon tower--at their
expense
* Then Verizon would take down the old EMS tower and construct a
new one in its place.
Attend this very important meeting. Ask your questions and get the answers you need. Jack Gallagher[/b]

Thanks to all those who are helping get this cell phone problem solved. I hope people at the meeting will stress the fact that lots of the thousands of people that regulary visit the island are shocked at the inability to get reliable service from Verizon or ATT. When my phone contract expires I'll be definatly signing up with the first service to get their tower up and running on the island.
