New science equipment on Beaver Island will allow the Central Michigan Universityâ??s Institute for Great Lakes Research to conduct experiments like never before.
The facility is located on a boathouse on Whiskey Point on Beaver Island. CMU does not have a comparable facility elsewhere, and in fact, there is not a comparable facility anywhere in the Great Lakes, Uzarski said. He said other mesocosm facilities exist on the Great Lakes, but none have the capabilities CMU has.

Perhaps CMU would consider another open house during the fall or next spring so that more Islanders could attend. The 2012 Museum Week Open House was informative and heartening.
It was a great opportunity to tour and ask questions of the CMU staff and director. It is an interesting facility which will add research data for the ultimate benefit of the Great Lakes' health.
