Deer siting:
Location: Far west end of Sloptown Road
Date and time: April 25 at noon.
Seen: 8 adults

Just identified a Killdeer (plover) at our beach. Distinctive double neck band. And just today we finally have Canada geese. Last week I saw sea gulls. Also saw a chickadee in our woods and some ravens. Soon, I, the great spotted Caucasian wife will be seen tending the sap vat.

Regarding deer counts, we have one - three who walk through our property almost daily (Mrs Reddings Trail, just south of the split for Western Shores Drive) and today I see 10 deer grazing on the shore.

I know, I'm not a BIBCO employee. But I just spoke to their office (10:45 a.m. on March 26, 2014), and they are still scheduled to have the first boat leave on April 14th. According to their office this morning, all else is rumor.

Thanks, Jacque for the update. The bird flew into the woods before we got a good look at it. What kind of bird is an 'Old Squaw'?

Seems like one thing we could all do for our wildlife in general is to remove snow, as much as possible, from any south facing slope you may have, no matter how small. This way, the sun will get to the ground sooner, and therefore, plants and insects there will be available sooner.

We just drove past a male bufflehead sitting in Paid Een Ogs Road just west of LaFreniere's. Has anyone else seen these recently? What are they going to eat?

If you haven't seen the NOAA map yet, it's really amazing. Shows ice coverage for all the great lakes in grey and black, and also shows water temps in colors.
