CMU Honors Photography class v2.0

Greetings!

My name is Al Wildey and I am a professor in the CMU Department of Art & Design. I will again be working with 13 university Honors students on a community photography project at Beaver Island May 9 â?? 13. To this end, I wanted to relay some information about this project and what you might expect.

The students and I will be visiting people in a variety of locations 5/9 - 5/12. Weâ??ll be looking for folks doing whatever it is they do on the island. Our project goal is to document folks doing what they do on a typical day. We will be acquiring portraits that will be merged into a large 5' x 5' community portrait to be displayed at the Community Center on Friday, 5/13 at 3pm.

Our goal is to record daily life in a respectful, nonintrusive manner; we are NOT interested in â??gotcha!â?￾ moments, trespassing or any other form of inappropriate behavior! If you see us out and about, and have suggestions about photographic opportunities, please let us know; on the other hand, if we are working nearby and you do not want us to photograph you or something or someone you are with, let us know that too!

Once again, we seek to tell a story about the Beaver Island community with a special emphasis on the daily life of those that laugh, work, relax and generally spend significant amounts of time there. Given the limitations, we may still miss many, many people and activities, as it is impossible to create a comprehensive record of such a diverse environment in just a few days. However, with your assistance and understanding, we believe it is possible to create a sense of place that will allow us to create a meaningful Community Portrait that is unique to the inhabitants of Beaver Island.

Thank you in advance for your understanding, cooperation, and advice!

Photo opportunities for Wednesday, 5/13 (odd hours)

Hi folks,

Al Wildey with the CMU Photography Honors students here again. Weâ??re getting a lot of great leads and contacts for photos during our 24 hour â??Day in the Life of Beaver Islandâ?￾ session this Wednesday except for one area; very late/very early activities. We know most folks are resting at 12am â?? 5am and from 10pm â?? midnight, but weâ??re hoping thereâ??s a few of you still working, either starting your day or ending your day during the wee hours, and we would like to show what you do when everyone else is quietly resting.

If you are someone (or know someone) that fits this description, please send me an email with contact info at:

Thanks!

About CMU Photography Class 5/11 â?? 5/15

Greetings! My name is Al Wildey and I am a professor in the CMU Department of Art & Design. I will be working with 15 university Honors students on a mobile phone photography project at Beaver Island May 11 â?? 15. To this end, I wanted to relay some information about this project and what you might expect.

The students and I will be scouting locations and people on Monday and Tuesday, 5/11 & 5/12. Weâ??ll be looking for folks doing whatever it is they do on the island. Our project goal is to document a typical day, from midnight to midnight, in order to tell a story (not THE story) of a day in the life of Beaver Island. After scouting for two days, we are prepared to photograph all day Wednesday, 5/13; on that day we will revisit people and places as well as be open to new discoveries across the island!

Our goal is to record daily life in a respectful, non-intrusive manner; we are NOT interested in â??gotcha!â?￾ moments, trespassing or any other form of inappropriate behavior! If you see us out and about, and have suggestions about photographic opportunities, please let us know; on the other hand, if we are working nearby and you do not want us to photograph you or something or someone you are with, let us know that too!

Once again, we seek to tell a story about Beaver Island with a special emphasis on the daily life of those that laugh, work, relax and generally spend significant amounts of time there. Given the limitations, we will miss many, many people and activities, as it is impossible to create a comprehensive record of such a diverse environment in a single 24-hour period. However, with your assistance and understanding, we believe it is possible to create a sense of place that will allow us to share your story with those that are unfamiliar with Beaver Island, itâ??s history, and itâ??s inhabitants.

Thank you in advance for your understanding, cooperation, and advice!
