National Day of Prayer -- May 7
The National Day of Prayer is Thursday May 7, 2015. Please join your fellow community members for a brief 30 minute ceremony at 12:00 noon at the AmVets Memorial Park to pray for our Government Leaders on all levels, National, State, and Local.
The purpose is to petition God on behalf of our leaders and those who are in authority over us. No matter what political party you may or may not belong too, no matter what your agreements or disagreements may be please take a moment and stand neighbor to neighbor as we honor our leaders with prayer that they may remain safe, be encouraged to commit to the oaths of office of which they hold, and make decisions for the people of this great nation who have entrusted them with their duties.
The guidance for assembly on this day is to gather at â??the prominent flagpoleâ? of the town of the prayer group. In the event of inclement weather, we will gather at the Community Center.
Background:
The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincolnâ??s proclamation of a day of â??humiliation, fasting, and prayerâ? in 1863. In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.

Sonia Choquette & Camino de Santiago
As many of you know, it was 15-months ago that I walked the Camino de Santiago â?? one of the three oldest pilgrimages in the world. I have said many times since: â??It is the best thing that I have ever done!â? During that pilgrimage, I had the great fortune to get to know Sonia Choquette, a New York Times Best Seller Author. This past weekend, I met with Sonia and learned that she has written a book on her Camino adventures (a.k.a. my Camino adventures!) and it will be released at the end of this month.
But here is the GREAT news! Anyone who pre-orders her book prior to September 28, their name will be put into a drawing to be held on September 29 where an â??all expense paid Camino de Santiagoâ? trip will be given to the lucky winner â?? a $2000 value. I would be thrilled if anyone with a connection to Beaver Island and this Forum were to have their name drawn!
Ordering your book AND getting your name in the hat for the drawing is a 3-step process:
1) Go to Soniaâ??s website www.soniachoquette.com and click on the link: â??Pre-Release Order Today.â?
2) You can select Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Books A Million to pre-order your book. Once ordered, copy down your receipt number.
3) Return to Soniaâ??s â??Pre-Release Order Todayâ? website and enter your info to get your name in the hat: email address, name and receipt number.
Like I say, I would be thrilled if anyone with a connection to Beaver Island and this Forum were to have their name drawn!

When driving by the Shamrock today, I noticed a sign out front: "Benefit Dinner for Johnny Matela -- Monday 5-7." I figured that it would be a good idea to get the word out on this forum! The dinner is tomorrow, December 2. About 5 weeks ago, Johnny was up on a roof. He figured that it wou...

Holy Cross Church Chimes
It appears that a lightning strike has taken out our Church bells! I have been working with a technician at Chime Master for our Carillon System, and I am confident that we are on the right track for repair. The software control unit has been disrupted, and it must be sent to them for re-programming...
