Is it my phone?

Is it just my phone, or is every Verizon customer on the island having trouble with their cell phone signal?

Re: COVID-19 PUBLIC STATEMENT

I am hearing numbers much larger than 16 positive Covid-19 cases being tossed about. Is there an official update?

Re: Perceived wisdom on coywolves/wolves on beaver Island?

It has been documented that there is a little wolf DNA in northern coyotes. If the average weight of a coyote is 27 pounds, it is not unusual for an older male to be 45 pounds or more. After all, they vary in size just like we all do. And the northern coyotes are a little larger than the western coy...

Re: Fall Colors

The red maples are beautiful right now around Miller’s Marsh, Greens Lake, Fox Lake, and along the west end of Hannigan’s Road. I don’t think I have ever seen beautiful colors out of the Sugar Maples on Beaver Island, they just seem to stay green for a very long time.

Re: Snowshoe Hare (rabbits)

If I could train a rabbit to run the bases that could work, but like I said, I can’t control where the rabbit runs. I generally start out on State Land, where I have just as much right to enjoy my hobby as you do. I really am trying to cooperate. If you can give me a hint of where you deer hunt, I w...

Snowshoe Hare (rabbits)

I have been coming to Beaver Island for almost 27 years now to run my beagles on snowshoe hare. I have tried very hard to get along with everybody. I come mostly in July, August, September, December, January, February, and March. I try to leave October and November for the deer hunters. I very seldo...

Re: Classic moment at BI Post Office

Since my name was brought up, I decided I better chime in. My vote goes with Walleyeguy. He was in line before closing time. It is not like he showed up after the door was locked and he wanted it unlocked. Years ago, on the mainland, where I stay when I can’t be in Paradise, I rushed to the bank dri...

Re: FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS TO BE CANCELLED

Maybe we can turn a corner and have something to look forward to. Years ago, I didn't have much vacation time. Every year that the Fourth of July made a 3 day weekend, I was on Beaver Island. I didn't even know you had a fireworks display at the harbor. I camped on the south end of the island. One F...

Re: Phil Becker RIP

I met Phil when purchasing property here in the mid 1990's. I have enjoyed his friendship ever since. I was looking forward to spending my retirement years singing with him in the choir. I was also hoping he would show me the ropes about snowmobiling on the island. I miss him.

Holiday Craft Sale

Can anyone tell us if there are plans for a Holiday craft sale. I think in the past it has been held in late November or early December.

I can get poison ivy, and I work in the woods most every day. Here is how I cope. I wear two pairs of socks, liner socks and wicking boot socks. I wear boots, not tennis shoes. I wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt. As soon as I get home, the clothes come off and get rolled up before going in t...

We too have a vacation rental property. It is pretty much filled from July 4 through the island reunion in early August. The rest of the year is hit and miss. I am glad you have a longer rental season. Families from other States probably don't come here in late August since their schools are startin...
